We name every bed before you pay, with the rate. Where the best available room is modest, we say so rather than dressing it up.

Four star and above wherever such a bed exists in Uganda. All rates are per person per night, sharing, full board unless noted.
West — the Rift Road and The Hour

B&B, pool, five minutes from the terminal. The right first and last night when your flight lands at two in the morning.
Mihingo Lodge, Lake Mburo
Built into a rock kopje above a waterhole, with a hide and a stable. The zebra walk past the infinity pool.
Buhoma Lodge, Bwindi
Forest-edge veranda, minutes from the trekking briefing, and close enough to Ruhija for a first-light transfer.
Kyambura Gorge Lodge, Queen Elizabeth
Volcanoes Safaris, in a restored coffee store above the gorge. Their foundation funds the wetland reclamation below it.
Kyaninga Lodge, Fort Portal
Hand-built log cabins on the rim of a crater lake, with the Rwenzori behind on a clear morning. The best room in western Uganda.
Nile Safari Lodge, Murchison
Bandas on the riverbank above the Nile. You hear hippo through the night.
The Chwezi Road
Igongo Cultural Centre, Mbarara
An Ankole cultural museum on site, which makes it the right bed as well as the nearest good one to Bigo bya Mugenyi.
Hoima Resort Hotel
The best bed in Hoima, and it is not four star. There is no lodge of that standard within an hour of Mparo. We would rather tell you than pretend.
East — the Eastern Endemic
Wildwaters Lodge, Jinja
A private island in the middle of the Nile rapids, reached by boat. The sound never stops and you stop noticing it by the second night.
Sipi River Lodge, Sipi
Cottages under the falls on Elgon’s flank, with the coffee slope starting at the gate.
Pian Upe Safari Lodge
Basic, and the only bed in the reserve. You stay for the Fox’s Weaver, not the bathroom.
Kara-Tunga Safari Camp, Moroto
Karamojong-run and community-owned. Simple, and the most useful conversation of the passage happens over dinner.
Apoka Safari Lodge, Kidepo
The Wilderness flagship, plunge pools looking over the Narus valley. Kidepo earns two nights and this is why.
The honest gap. There is no four-star bed in Hoima, near Bigo bya Mugenyi, at Pian Upe or in Moroto. That caps what we can charge for our best passage, and we would rather carry that than move the sacred sites to suit the hotels.
